Future Research

My future research goal will explore three inter-related planning issues of sustainable infrastructure development that address market failures and ameliorate the burden on the poor.

First, I seek to reconstruct theories that inform infrastructure investments and management, particularly with regard to how they affect the poor.

Second, I will examine emerging risks, and the opportunities offered by global structural transformations—climate change, rapid urbanization in the Tropics, and unprecedented economic growth in emerging markets that are redefining geopolitics.

Third, I will seek to derive meta-theoretical heuristics for creating a more globally relevant planning theory.  Expected outputs over the next three years include seven journal papers (three empirical, four theoretical), and one book.
