Pedagogical Approach

I adopt a flexible pedagogical approach to match the needs of a course and composition of the class.  In my experience, a combination of the case method, collaborative learning, and use of technology are indeed useful in the context of international planning.

To develop students’ problem solving strategies, I encourage my class to include economic, social, and technical analyses that are spatially and temporally disaggregated.  

For instance, mapping transportation needs of poor and non-poor or to consider time in three different ways: historical evolution of institutions, temporal bracketing of events, temporal fluctuations or cycles—for instance through a Mayoral electoral cycle.  

By sharing examples of such analyses, I encourage students to include place and time in group discussions, term papers, and workshops.
