Shagun Mehrotra

I am trained in the modernist tradition at the School of Architecture, CEPT University in Ahmedabad, a school founded by students of Le Corbusier and Louis Khan while they worked, post-independence, in India.

Most recently, I completed the design and oversaw the construction of a studio and residence with a total built-up area of 10,000 square feet, in Indore central India.  The construction was completed in the summer of 2010.  I also designed the Gandhi Institute for Sustainable Development, Kerala, South India, for the Minister of Education Government of Kerala in 2000, construction was completed in 2005.

My work integrates local construction techniques, skills, and materials and attempts to revive lost handicrafts, particularly metal and timber construction by reinterpreting traditional skills for contemporary forms and functions.  I also lay special emphasis on light, space, and structure.
